Refer every time you've used something from someone else's work.
Place the in-text citation correctly in your text.
Be aware of the boundary between your own and other people's text.
Reflect on which sources you use and why you choose these specifically. Why are the sources you've selected the best to shed light on your topic?
Practice systematic referencing:
- Keep track of the references you use. Write down immediately where you have taken things from. It is always difficult to find text passages again in the final stages of working on the assignment.
- Use the same style for all quotes, in-text citations, and references. This ensures consistent and coherent use of sources.
- Invest a little extra time in getting direct quotations correct.
- Practice becoming good at paraphrasing.
- Make sure there is a 100% match between in-text citations and references in the final bibliography: All in-text citations have a corresponding reference and vice versa.
